Reconnaissance & Reconstruction Support Teams for the Dec. 2014 Flood Disaster
The team members are to be formed by Dr. Wang Chan Chin, Dr. Lee Min Lee, Dr. Tay Yong Haur, Ms. Lam Foong Sin and chairperson. A team of UTAR CDRR members joined emergency response activities by Tzu-Chi foundation at Pahang damaged areas (Temerloh & Kuala Krau village) on 31st Jan 2015 and 7th Feb 2015.

Tzu-Chi KL team surveyed those families that require financial support at Temerloh area. There was no apparent governmental support at that time. Financial support is the last stage of Tzu-Chi team, following rescue, cleaning, and medical responses. Tzu-Chi Penang team supporting those affected in Kelantan area.

Research collaboration with University of Ottawa
Prof. Murat Saatcioglu from Uni. Of Ottawa will visit KL on the 6-9th Feb. During his visit, several CDRR members from the structural team will met up with Prof Murat during lunch meeting on 7th Feb to discuss about potential research collaborations on topic related to earthquake engineering and structural dynamics

UTAR R&D Colloquiums (Presentations and Participations)
he 3rd UTAR R&D Colloquium was held at Perak Campus on 3rd June. Five CDRR members (Dr. Chong Siaw Yah, Mr. Lee Xia Sheng, Ir. Woon Yoke Bee) and Chairperson have attended. A presentation by CDRR, "Recent Flood Disaster in Malaysia and Collaboration with Local NGOs in DRR" was given by the chairperson on be half of Dr. Wang Chan Chinn.

The 2nd UTAR R&D Colloquium was held at Kuala Lumpur Campus on 18th October. Four CDRR members (Ir. Dr. Lee Min Lee, Ir. Dr. Low Kaw Sai, Dr. Mst. Sadia Mahzabin, Dr. Lau See Hung, and Dr. Koo Chai Hoon) have attended. A presentation by CDRR, " Uncertainty estimation in flood inundation mapping: an application of non-parametric bootstrapping" was given by Dr Majid Mirzaei, a post doctoral researcher under Dr. Huang Yuk Feng.

UTAR-UST workshop on “Disaster Management & Risk Reduction on Climate Change”
The UTAR-UST Workshop on Disaster Management and Risk Reduction on Climate Change held from 13 to 16 August 2015. Four speakers from UST universities came to Malaysia to participate in the field visit and workshop.

The speakers spent 4 days in Malaysia and the visit schedule is given in Table 1.

A field visit to Kuala Krau and Temerloh in Pahang was organized on 14 August 2015 with the support of Tzu-Chi Foundation. The visit was aimed at exploring the recovery works done at the flood affected areas following the December 2014 Flood in Malaysia. The trip was joined by 8 UTAR staff, 3 delegates from UST, and a delegate from Tzu-Chi Foundation. The group was received by Tzu-Chi members and leaders of the local community at Kuala Krau and Temerloh.

The workshop on "Disaster Management and Risk Reduction on Climate Change" was held on 15 August 2015. It was officially opened by Ir Prof. Lee Sze Wei, Vice-President of UTAR.

The workshop consisted of 3 sessions. The first session focused on applications of science and technology in disaster management / mitigation. The second session highlighted the importance of social science and medical efforts in disaster recovery and preparedness. The third session is an open discussion session involving representatives from non-governmental organization (NGO), disaster victims, and university staff to discuss on the current issues of disaster management in Taiwan and Malaysia, and how society can move forward to a better and safer urban environment. Table 2 shows the programme of the workshop.



The workshop successfully attracted 18 participants from industry, 17 UTAR staff, and 80 students mainly from Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering & Science (Figures 2 & 3). The workshop was accredited with 5 CPD and 4 PDP units from the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). The workshop has successfully raised the awareness level of participants on the potential disaster risk in Malaysia and on the importance of disaster preparedness. In general, the workshop received good feedback from the participants.
