Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction



In 2015, CDRR has conducted various activities and events, such as sending reconnaissance & reconstruction support teams to the disaster affected areas of Dec. 2014 Flood in Malaysia, presentations and participations to 3rd and 4th UTAR R&D Colloquiums, organising the UTAR-UST workshop on "Disaster Management & Risk Reduction on Climate Change", and other technical talks & presentations by CDRR members. Also a MoU singing between UTAR and B.K. GeoSoil Engineering Sdn Bhd was made. Four RC meetings have also been held to discuss CDRR's activities among the members. The followings summarise the CDRR activities of 2015.

1 January 31st & February 7th Reconnaissance & reconstruction support teams were formed by DCRR members for the Dec. 2014 Flood Disaster and two teams went the disaster affected areas along Sungai Pahang in collaboration with Tsu-Chi Foundation. (Temerloh City and Kuala Krau in Sungai Pahang).
2 February 6th MoU between B.K. Geosoil Engineering Sdn Bhd is signed at Sg Long Campus for conducting research collaborations on geotechnical testing
3 February 7th Research collaboration with University of Ottawa, Canada was discussed during a meeting between CI members and Prof. Murat Saatcioglu.of Faculty of Civil Engineering when he visited KL.
4 June 3rd Participation & presentation at the 3rd UTAR R&D Colloquium at Kampar Campus.
5 August 13th-16th Organised UTAR-UST workshop on "Disaster Management & Risk Reduction on Climate Change". The UTAR-UST Workshop on Disaster Management and Risk Reduction on Climate Change held from 13 to 16 August 2015. Four speakers from UST universities came to Malaysia to participate in the field visit and workshop. Total number of participants was 115, including 18 participants from industry.
6 November 21st Participation & presentation at the 4th UTAR R&D Colloquium at Kuala Lumpur Campus.
