Description of Centre:	The centre was established in 2009 with the aim to advance knowledge and foster a culture of research in the areas of business and management. In carrying out our mission, Center for Business and Management is committed to: inculcate a strong research culture within a dynamic and efficient team of academic and support staff, advance knowledge of business and management practices through high quality research, promote the role of UTAR in nation building in which the research findings and practical implications are useful for industry practitioners to better manage their businesses, provide the opportunity for faculty staff and students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, to learn and to conduct research, serve as a platform for research collaboration between universities and industry, attract research funding from external sources by seeking/securing awards from the corporate sector; project, grants or other types of awards, organise activities or events to promote journal publications among faculty and students such as having training workshops and seminars.

1	Research talk: Publishing Effectively at High Impact Journals for Arts and Humanities: What Matters Most Speaker: Dr. Garry Tan Wei Han 10th January 2019, 10.00am-12.00pm, H109, UTAR Kampar Campusv Publishing is an important aspect for many academicians around the world. Often paper lack of focus, ill-prepared and are poorly written which leads to desk rejection by journal editors. Tan shared on the basic understanding on how to write and publish effectively.
2	Research talk: Retire Rich or Retire Poor? Achieve Your Financial Freedom at a Happy Age Speaker: Shirley Yap 28th February 2019, 10.00am-12.00pm, H215, UTAR Kampar Campus Planning for retirement is a lot like putting a jigsaw puzzle together. Every decision you made in one area of your financial life will have impact on the others. Factors like how long you will work and how much you have saved will greatly impact your ideal retirement. Challenging your existing beliefs and analyzing what you have in place to make your retirement happen gives you the opportunity to make informed decisions. Through this talk, you will learn how to work smart, play hard to become a happy millionaire with the right positive mindset of wealth accumulation. A total of 34 participants attended the talk.
3	Topic: FinTech: Turning Technological Disruption to Our Advantage Speaker: Dr Lim Kim-Hwa 7th March 2019, 10.30am-12.30pm, H215, UTAR Kampar Campus Technology creates new threats and opportunities. Whether technology is a threat or an opportunity depends on where we are standing. The talk focused on how FinTech, AI and Blockchain would change how we manage our money in the future. The aim of the talk is to show how ideas and academic work can be implemented in business as well as sharing ideas of how the FinTech revolution will change over time.
4	Research Talk: WeChat – More Than Just a Chat App. Speaker: Mr. Frank Ho 18th July 2019, 3.00pm - 4.00pm, IDK4, UTAR Kampar Campus Frank has been in the online marketing business for the past 5 years. He is currently the Marketing Director of Urban Cloudnet Sdn. Bhd. Urban Cloudnet is an online marketing company specialised in WeChat Marketing. Frank helps brands to keep their customers informed about new tailor-made offers and targeted message through WeChat channel. He customizes WeChat marketing plan for every company to make sure their targets can be achieved. Specifically, he helps brands to set-up a WeChat Official Account, get a clear grasp of how to implement WeChat payment and promote their brand on WeChat. In his talk, he shared on the use of WeChat to enhance business and marketing.
5	Research talk: How grant assessors evaluate the proposal for fundamental research? Speaker: Dr. Chong Yee Lee 23rd July 2019, 12.00pm - 2.00pm, IDK8, UTAR Kampar Campus Dr. Chong shared on the topics, which include: What is the meaning of fundamental? What are MOHE's priority areas? What are the FRGS's research clusters and domains? What are the assessor's main concern? What are the common comments given by assessor to reject a project proposal? What are the measures of a good quality project proposal? and etc.
6	Research talk: Digital Marketing - Industry Landscape and Opportunities Speaker: Mr. Justin Chen 25 July 2019, 3.00pm - 4.00pm, IDK4, UTAR Kampar Campus Justin has been in digital marketing industry ever since he graduated from UTAR in 2014 and has extensive knowledge and experience in helping business clients from the different industry to achieve great success in digital marketing space. He is currently attached with SearchGuru - an award-winning Performance Marketing agency, specialising in Paid Media, SEO, web development, social media and creative services. In this talk, he shared on the Malaysian digital marketing landscape and opportunities for businesses and students as well.
7	Research talk: Tips and Guidelines for Publishing in International Journal: An Editor’s Perspective Speaker: Professor Alain Chong Yee Loong 22nd August 2019, 3.30pm - 5.00pm, IDK4, UTAR Kampar Campus The objective of the talk was to enable participants to obtain important information from the experiences shared by the invited speaker, Prof Alain Chong Yee Loong, who is also currently the co-editor in Chief for Industrial Management & Data Systems (Emerald, Clarivate Analytics; SCIE; JCR-2018; IF-3.727; ABS Level 2). He also shared some insider knowledge and pointed out key questions to help participants develop papers that will interest good journals.
8	Research talk: Medical Tourism in Malaysia: Synopsis Speaker: Prof. Lai Yew Wah 18th September 2019, 10.00am-12.00pm, IDK3, UTAR Kampar Campus The medical tourism industry is a rapidly growing sector in Malaysia, both in terms of the healthcare travelers it attracts and the revenue it generates. The government viewed it as an engine of growth, particularly after the Asian financial crisis in 1997 which resulted in lower demand, excess capacity and increased cost in private healthcare facilities. Since then, Malaysia has been successful in positioning itself as an important medical hub. Affordability, decline in transportation costs, availability of accredited medical facilities, qualified healthcare workforce, service quality, reduction in search costs and ease of adjustment are among the contributing factors to this success. Besides, the policy environment pertaining to facilitation, service liberalization, promotion and regulation is also conducive for the development of the medical tourism industry
9	Research talk: From Passion to Profit - How I Turn My Skills to Business Worth Millions at My 20s Speaker: Mr. Nicholas Tay 25th October 2019, 2.30pm - 4.30pm, IDK1, UTAR Kampar Campus Nicsman strives to inspire young entrepreneurs and freelancers in bringing positive impact to the country and the world. In his talk, he mentioned that he believes technology has the power to transform people’s lives. With a vision to uplift the living standard of creative and technology talents, he contributes part of his time educating new and rising young adults about Web design and Development despite his packed schedule. His work has touched the lives of students and the many people he has come across.
10	Research talk: Writing/Publication Technique for Beginner (Part I) Speaker: Dr. Wong Lai Soon 5th November 2019, 10.00am-12.00pm, H118, UTAR Kampar Campus This research sharing session is mainly for beginners. Dr. Wong briefly shares his knowledge about writing tips, writing style, paper structure, some detail about technique of writing, publication process and editorial process.

Dr. Wong briefly shares his knowledge about writing tips, writing style, paper structure, some detail about technique of writing, publication process and editorial process. As a continuation of the last research talk, the emphasis this time is on publication process which include paper submission, reviewing and editorial processes.
