Description of Centre:The centre was established in 2009 with the aim to advance knowledge and foster a culture of research in the areas of business and management. In carrying out our mission, Center for Business and Management is committed to:
  • inculcate a strong research culture within a dynamic and efficient team of academic and support staff,
  • advance knowledge of business and management practices through high quality research,
  • promote the role of UTAR in nation building in which the research findings and practical implications are useful for industry practitioners to better manage their businesses,
  • provide the opportunity for faculty staff and students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, to learn and to conduct research,
  • serve as a platform for research collaboration between universities and industry,
  • attract research funding from external sources by seeking/securing awards from the corporate sector; project, grants or other types of awards,
  • organise activities or events to promote journal publications among faculty and students such as having training workshops and seminars.

Challenging your existing beliefs and analyzing what you have in place to make your retirement happen gives you the opportunity to make informed decisions. Through this talk, you will learn how to work smart, play hard to become a happy millionaire with the right positive mindset of wealth accumulation. A total of 34 participants attended the talk.

The talk focused on how FinTech, AI and Blockchain would change how we manage our money in the future. The aim of the talk is to show how ideas and academic work can be implemented in business as well as sharing ideas of how the FinTech revolution will change over time.

Frank has been in the online marketing business for the past 5 years. He is currently the Marketing Director of Urban Cloudnet Sdn. Bhd. Urban Cloudnet is an online marketing company specialised in WeChat Marketing. Frank helps brands to keep their customers informed about new tailor-made offers and targeted message through WeChat channel. He customizes WeChat marketing plan for every company to make sure their targets can be achieved. Specifically, he helps brands to set-up a WeChat Official Account, get a clear grasp of how to implement WeChat payment and promote their brand on WeChat. In his talk, he shared on the use of WeChat to enhance business and marketing.

Justin has been in digital marketing industry ever since he graduated from UTAR in 2014 and has extensive knowledge and experience in helping business clients from the different industry to achieve great success in digital marketing space. He is currently attached with SearchGuru - an award-winning Performance Marketing agency, specialising in Paid Media, SEO, web development, social media and creative services. In this talk, he shared on the Malaysian digital marketing landscape and opportunities for businesses and students as well.

The objective of the talk was to enable participants to obtain important information from the experiences shared by the invited speaker, Prof Alain Chong Yee Loong, who is also currently the co-editor in Chief for Industrial Management & Data Systems (Emerald, Clarivate Analytics; SCIE; JCR-2018; IF-3.727; ABS Level 2). He also shared some insider knowledge and pointed out key questions to help participants develop papers that will interest good journals.
8Research talk: Medical Tourism in Malaysia: Synopsis

The medical tourism industry is a rapidly growing sector in Malaysia, both in terms of the healthcare travelers it attracts and the revenue it generates. The government viewed it as an engine of growth, particularly after the Asian financial crisis in 1997 which resulted in lower demand, excess capacity and increased cost in private healthcare facilities. Since then, Malaysia has been successful in positioning itself as an important medical hub. Affordability, decline in transportation costs, availability of accredited medical facilities, qualified healthcare workforce, service quality, reduction in search costs and ease of adjustment are among the contributing factors to this success. Besides, the policy environment pertaining to facilitation, service liberalization, promotion and regulation is also conducive for the development of the medical tourism industry
