In 2019, 707 applications were approved with an estimated value of RM 2,619,374.14 as shown in Figure 1. This involved 517 UTAR staff as shown in Figure 2.

From the total of RM 2,619,374.14, 56% is under the category of Personal Consultancy while 44% is under the category University Consultancy as shown in Figure 3.
Figure 4 shows the approved value by unit. Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) has the largest share at 25.9% of the total approved amount. This is followed by Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) at 19.9% and Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology (FEGT) at 11.8%.

Figure 5 shows the percentage value of approved projects by categories. Training constitutes 48% of all approved projects. This is followed by Consultancy at 25% and R&D at 24%.

In 2019, UTAR spin-off IoT Energy Sdn Bhd (formerly Ecotricity Sdn Bhd) is in active negotiation with two major utility companies from Malaysia for projects worth RM10 million.

DCC is continuously working with business and industry associations such as Federation of Manufacturers Malaysia (FMM) and Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Kuala Lumpur & Selangor (KLSCCCI). In October 2020, DCC will be working with other departments in UTAR to organise an Industry Linkage Forum to enhance UTAR’s collaboration with the SME/SMI. This will promote and encourage consultancy and commercialisation works amongst the academia as well as to align its efforts in elevating UTAR’s status.
