Description of Centre:The CABF aims to become the leading research Centre in disseminating knowledge and extends its expertise to the society, local, and worldwide through consultancy and research in line with the university's vision. The mission of the Centre is to inculcate among the faculty and the academic community a culture of commitment to disseminate knowledge and encourage vigorous scholastic research activities with publications of high international standard. The Centre will meet the demand for researchers in the area of banking, finance, and accounting with the hope to incorporate applied research and consultancy works among the academics and the industries

Vision
The vision of the Centre of Applied Psychology (CAP) is to become a national and regional centre of excellence in the research area of applied psychology.c

Mission Statement
  • To promote and pursue a rigorous R&D approach towards producing cutting edge research and expertise.
  • To collaborate with various stakeholders for ensuring the maximum utilization of resources and expertise in the selected applied psychology disciplines.
  • To inculcate appreciation of the rich diversity of research interest among academic staff and stakeholders, and abiding concern for the betterment of humans and the society.
The Goals In carrying out its mission, CAP is committed to:
  • Encourage multi and inter-disciplinary research among academic staff in applied psychology disciplines that fosters interaction and cooperation with various stakeholders (internal and external) in producing quality research.
  • Become an avenue for students and staff to plan, discuss and democratically chart the evolution of R&D both within the university and out.
  • Develop undergraduate and postgraduate academic apprentices through exposure to the activities of the centre.
  • Promote a culture of intellectual socialization among academic staff in the applied psychology disciplines with the society and region.
  • Support ongoing research projects by staff and students through administrative and managerial assistances in realizing their full potential
Research area:
  • Educational psychology as in psychology of teaching & learning, educational intervention, and social psychology of school as organization
  • Counseling psychology - personal and interpersonal functioning across life span; emotional, social, vocational, educational, health-related, developmental, and organizational concerns.
  • Industrial/organizational psychology - e.g. workplace behavior, work performance, human resource
  • Clinical psychology - assessment, diagnosis, treatment, & prevention of mental disorders
  • Community psychology - quality of life of individuals, communities, & society
  • Environmental psychology - interdisciplinary field focused on the interplay between human & their surroundings
  • Cognitive psychology/neuroscience - mental processes, pattern recognition, memory, creativity.
  • Social and cultural psychology

18 April 2019 (Thursday) from 8.30am to 5.30pm at A003
Objectives:
1. Providing a channel for CAP members to present research findings,
especially projects funded by UTARRF and Lau Hooi Kee Research Fund.
2. Sharing research areas and knowledge among CAP members and FAS staff,
and to discover collaboration opportunities.
3. Inviting feedback from attendees to improve research quality
4. Stimulating new research ideas
5. Training postgraduate students to organize academic seminar

Following the positive responses from participants and presenters,
the Centre for Applied Psychology (CAP) once again
organised CAP Seminar 2019 on 18 April 2019 at the Kampar Campus.
The seminar featured two external speakers namely, Dr Latha Ravindran
from UCSI University and Dr Mohammed Yusof Bin Dawood Gany
from Management and Science University (MSU) Shah Alam.
Postgraduate students from UTAR and staff presented and shared
their research ideas to audiences. Presenters also received useful
feedback through the conversation and discussion with the participants.
It would be better to encourage
more postgraduates to join future seminars.
There was an official book launching for CAP book in this seminar.
2Little Giant 2019 27-28 July 2019 (Saturday- Sunday) from 8.00am to 5.00pm at Block P

Objectives:
1. To increase undergraduate’s research experience that is related to activity-based program
2. To provide a platform for staff and students in understanding and practicing observation
research
3. To contribute our psychological related knowledge to community by enhancing primary
school students’ social and emotional regulatory skill

With the collaboration of UCCC (UTAR Community Counselling Centre),
the Little Giant 2019 Program was carried out by inviting primary school students,
upon the completion of UPSR, to UTAR. A total of 21 students ranging from 9 to 12 years old
participated in this program. This program aimed to enhance students’ social and emotional
regulatory skill. Students involved in activity-based program that students worked together
with their friends and interacted with facilitators. The students also learnt how to express
their emotions and solve social interaction problem properly.

The activities included “Self-awareness”, “Linking feelings, thoughts, and behaviours”, and
“Problem solving skills”. Facilitators were assigned to ensure the safety of children and guide
the students in accomplishing the activities. The activity-based program enhanced students’ social awareness, relationship skills and
semotional control.
3EYE TRACKING WORKSHOP 23 August 2019 (Friday) from 2.00pm to 5.00pm at P005

Objectives:
1. Increase the knowledge of staff and students on eye tracking measures in research.
2. Teach the staff and students to operate eye tracker (Gazepoint GP3 HD eye-tracker)

This Eye Tracking Workshop is a workshop where participants are able to learn to
operate eye tracker and experiment the process of using eye-trackers in research. Dr Lee Ai-Suan who focuses on the research in cognitive
psychology shared us her research experience using eye tracker. Staff and students learned about eye tracking measures and its application
in research via hand-on experience. This workshop also increased staff’s and students’ interests in using eye-tracker to conduct their study.
