Description of Centre: Recent developments affecting the world require thorough understanding. In order to have such understanding, issues and problems cannot be understood from a single perspective. Often, a comprehensive multi-angled approach has to be adopted. Some issues affect international relations, such as border dispute between countries. Although, on the surface, the issue seems to be political, underlying it is a complex socio-historical and economic contexts that contribute to buildup of a controversial problem that affect international relations. Some other issues are more micro and confine to certain communities that live within a society. Again on the surface, the issue may appear to be simple, but in actual fact it may be an issue that emerges due to poor communication and lack of social access. In view of such complexities, it is important for social scientist to have a common platform to share their expertise, to exchange ideas and most importantly to develop a comprehensive approach to understand and resolve problems that affect human locally and internationally. Scholars from various social sciences fields can no longer afford to work in-silos. Centre for Social and Media Studies aims to provide this platform.
