CITC VR Project at Betong
A group of Centre for Immersive Technology and Creativity (CITC) members visited Datuk Romie Sigan Daniel, Resident of Betong Division, at his office in Betong, Sarawak from 26 May to 2 June 2015 to do research for their virtual reality project.

The project entitled, Borneo Virtual Reality (VR) Walkthrough, which aims to preserve culture via the new media. The purpose of the trip was to give the team members an actual feel of the environment that they will be creating in the virtual world.

“At CITC, we aimed to conduct research in support of culture preservation through the new media technology, specifically through Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR)”, said the chairperson of CITC, Aloysius Yapp.

The team also managed to cover Paku, Saribas, Layar and Batang Ai areas. The surroundings were captured in high quality photos and videos in order to create a vast and immersive environment in VR. CITC is one of UTAR’s research centres that focus on culture preservation through modern communication technology.
