Publication Fund Awarded
UTAR Institute of Chinese Studies Head of Modern Chinese Literature Studies Unit Dr Lee Soo Chee was recently awarded a publication fund from Nantah Education and Research Foundation (南大教育与研究基金会).
The publication fund of Dr Lee's book, titled "From Taiwan to Malaysia: A Study of the Influence of Yu Guangzhong on Malaysian Chinese Literature Authors (由岛至岛：余光中对马华作家的影响研究)", amounted to RM5,000.
The book researched on the influence of Taiwanese writer-cum-scholar Yu Guangzhong to Malaysian Chinese Literature authors and focused on the literary history of Modernist Chinese Literature in the context of Malaysia, with a special focus on how nine Malaysian Chinese Literature authors learned from Yu's writing on literary criticism, modern poetry, and modern prose.
The nine Malaysian Chinese Literature authors in the research were Liu Guide, Wen Renping, Wen Rui'an, Fang Erzhen, He Qiliang, Zhang Shulin, Xie Chuancheng, Xin Jinshun, and Luo Yaoting. Besides that, other Malaysian Chinese Literature authors such as He Naijian, Fu Guojian, Lee Youcheng, and You Chuan also have been mentioned in the dissertation and annotated sections.
The Book Collection of Nantah Foundation aim to publish high-quality writing, encourage engagement in academic research, promote humanistic compassion, facilitate the transmission of cultural values in the modern day, work hard in the fields of Science and Technology for cultural development, and implement Nantah Foundation's vision, mission, and direction.
