Centre for Agriculture and Food Research

Centre Name:
Centre for Agriculture and Food Research (CAFR)
Chairperson:Dr. Wong Wey Lim
Description of Centre:Depletion of agricultural crops, which subsequently reduce food production, can be linked to several factors such as pests and diseases of plants, climate change, and limited land and freshwater resources. As part of the global effort to increase food supply and to ensure food security, intensive research and development in agriculture and food science have recently gained much traction in many countries. Although the improvement of food production and quality through research and technology is more important than ever, it should not leave any negative impacts on the environment, which may affect food security and livelihood in the future. Therefore, a sustainable agro-food system is much needed in our strive towards food security and zero hunger. To strengthen our professional standing and to expand our research network in agriculture and food research, the Centre for Agriculture and Food Research (CAFR) is established in Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman to lead excellent and innovative research and development in sustainable food production.

The aims of CAFR are:
  • To form a leading centre of excellence for research and development in agriculture and food science.
  • To encourage the development of innovative research in agriculture and food security for sustainable and food production.
  • To create and provide knowledge on agriculture and food research to farmers, food producers, government agencies and industries that are involved in agriculture and food in order to increase their productivity and sustainability.
Research area: Plants, Animals, Biodiversity in agriculture, Food innovation and production, Environmental issues related to agriculture.
