UTAR-TungHai Urban Heritage Workshop
Camp Joint Studio 2017

and Tun Tan Cheng Lock Centre (TTCLC) Malacca.
Venue: Kuala Lumpur and Melaka.

The activity was organized by COSA, with support from National University of Singapore (NUS) and Tun Tan Cheng Lock Centre (TTCLC) Malacca.

36 staff and students from Tunghai University, Taiwan and 40 plus staff and students from UTAR DASD participated in the week long field activity in Kuala Lumpur and Melaka. The result culminated in an 8-weeks urban intervention project with a final project review in TungHai University in April 2017.



Malaysia Architectural Heritage Study Tour

Date: 6 – 15 November 2017
Organised by: COSA and Tian Jin Cheng Jian University (TICJ).
Venue: Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Melaka, Penang,
Cameron Highland and Ipoh.

As part of exchange and collaboration with Tian Jin Cheng Jian University (TICJ), COSA organized a 13 day-long Malaysian Architectural Heritage Study Tour for TICJ staff and students from the 6th to the 15th of November 2017. The study tour covered places such as Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Melaka, Penang, Cameron Highland and Ipoh. Through workshops and discussions held with local communities and UTAR staff, the activity strengthened understanding on local issues and improved mutual interactions of both universities.



National Timber Design Competition NTDC 2017

Venue: Dewan Anjung Sri Budiman (Annex), Universiti Teknologi
MARA (UiTM), Shah Alam.


In conjunction with the National Timber Design Competition (NTDC) 2017, the Timber Construction Pinnacle Day (TCPD) 2017 was held at UiTM. The TCPD 2017 is organised to promote the uses of timber through seminars, exhibitions and competitions. The event was jointly organized by the Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) and The Institute for Infrastructure Engineering & Sustainable Management (IIESM) of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). Several entries from UTAR also entered the NTDC Competition.
For the Student category, the UTAR team won First Place receiving the prize money of RM6,000. The UTAR Students are:

  1. Tan Ying Kuan (Architecture)
  2. Ang Kuan Ken (Architecture)
  3. Hor Yon Hu (Engineering)
  4. Wong Yin Meng (Engineering)
  5. Ang Wen Wei (Engineering, University of Chia Yi, Taiwan)

As for the Professional Category, the UTAR team won 3rd place, receiving the prize money of RM5,000. Team members for the Professional category are:
