Centre for Applied Psychology (CAP) Research Seminar 2017 |

Date: 12 Jan 2017 (Thursday) - 8.15am to 5pm Among the objectives and talking points centered within the seminar were to providie a channel for CAP members to present research findings, especially projects funded by UTARRF; Sharing research areas and knowledge among CAP members and FAS staff and to discover collaboration opportunities; Inviting feedback from attendees to improve research quality; Stimulating new research ideas and Training postgraduate students to organize academic seminar. 20 CAP members participated in the seminar. Research findings were presented and exchange of research ideas took place during the seminar.

CAP Special Meeting Japanese Scholar visitation |

Date: 3 July 2017 (Monday) A few of the objectives of this visit is to understand current psychological research trend of Japan; to initiate Interaction/networking with Japanese scholars and to initiate potential collaborations with researchers from Japan. Members of CAP had a fruitful conversation with Japanese scholars during the visitation. Everyone shared their research interests in the meeting and invitation for research collaboration was extended. Besides sharing research interests, the visiting scholars also mentioned their research activities in Japan, their international collaborators and also their background of discipline. The scholars inquired the method to validate questionnaires in Malaysia since Malaysian samples are mostly bilingual and trilingual. Besides that, the scholars also shared the way they cross-validate questionnaire with their collaborators from foreign countries.

Date: 3 July 2017 (Monday)
Prof. Dr. Yasuyuki Fukukawa presented his research (a research in collaboration with CAP member – Mr. Tan Soon Aun) to psychology students and CAP members during the public lecture. The research title was “Ageism in Asia: Examining Attitudes towards Older Adults”.
Associate Prof. Ko Kaida presented his paper entitled “Wake Up for the Environment: An Association between Sleepiness and Pro-Environmental Behavior”. The research focuses on how Sleep behavior affects human behavior towards the environment.
Associate Prof. Naoko Kaida presented her paper entitled “Waste Perceptions and Behaviors in Malaysia and Japan: Cross-Cultural Implications from Questionnaire Surveys”. Comparisons on waste disposal method were done in Japanese and Malaysian context.
