Venue: Dewan Samuri Satay, Kajang

In collaboration with the Medical and Health Sciences Society (MHSS), Centre for Research on Non-Communicable Diseases (CRNCD) has organised a Community Health Screening Service for members of the Persatuan Pesara-pesara Malaysia Daerah Hulu Langat and Persatuan Bekas Tentera Malaysia on the 12th of October 2013.

The objectives of this event are to provide i) free health screening for the group of retirees, ii) opportunity for MHSS members to serve the community and iii) to raise awareness of non-communicable diseases (NCD) such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high blood cholesterol level and obesity in the community.

A total of 80 retirees and 55 members of MHSS participated in this event.  Four different stations were set up for the screening, they were: blood pressure, blood glucose, blood cholesterol, anthropometric (height and weight) and questionnaire stations.  After the participants have completed the health screening test, the participants were directed to the Consultation station to receive individual explanation on their results.

A short talk on “Healthy Lifestyle” was delivered by Professor Dr. Shelly Soo.

The event was a huge success as we have managed to reach our objectives. All the MHSS members gained an excellent experience in serving the community. CRNCD managed to promote health education and raising awareness of non-communicable diseases for this group of retiree community.
