Centre Name:

Centre for Media and Creative Communication

Chairperson:

Asst Prof Dr. Chin Yee Mun

Description of Centre:

In the 21st century, it is knowledge and ideas that will drive the global economy. Innovation and creativity will generate new wealth and power, as did the manufacturing of goods over the last two centuries of Western Industrial Revolution. Our focus today therefore should be on the creation of new knowledge, on enhancing the power of the mind, and in inspiring creative output.

The Centre for Media and Creative Communication (CMCC) in this context aims at providing a platform for academic staff of the university to conduct research on media/new media and creative communication within the cultural, economic, political and social context of Malaysia. The research will adopt an inter-disciplinary approach. The primary mission is to encourage, aid and support the academic staff to conduct research and to promote a research culture among the faculty members. Meanwhile, the centre also collaborates with community, industry and the government to provide innovative solutions and to facilitate knowledge transfer that has broad and beneficial impact.

      Highlights of activites

      National Youth Symposium

      26.10.2013

Malaysian youths have become an increasingly visible and an influential force in the country’s national transformation. The opportunities for higher education and advances in communication technology have awakened a conviction among youths on their role as agents of change and they are becoming more vocal on issues affecting the nation and society. Youths have been enabled greatly by social media activities such as online discussions via Facebook and coordinating youth movement’s activities via Twitter to participate actively in discussions that concern them.

In view that Malaysian youths’ involvement holds transformative promise for our nation, it is proposed that a forum entitled ‘Youth Power in National Transformation’ be held to discuss three key areas of youth empowerment: Economics, Media and Politics. These three areas have direct impact on the transformation of a nation due to its mass involvement with youths.
